Botox treatment is one of the most frequently preferred cosmetic procedures to reduce wrinkles that settle on our face with advancing age and to eliminate tired, angry, sad facial expressions on the face. Wrinkles occur especially on the forehead, between the eyebrows and around the eyes due to mimic movements. With botox application, the movements of these mimic muscles are temporarily reduced and wrinkles are eliminated, and at the same time, we prevent the formation of wrinkles by slowing down the aging process.

What is Botulinum Toxin?

Botulinum toxin is a toxin obtained from a bacterium called clostridium botulinum and is produced under laboratory conditions. It works by temporarily relaxing the muscles that cause wrinkles. Muscles that have lost their former strength cannot tighten the skin and the appearance of wrinkles is eliminated.

What are the purposes of use?

Botox treatment has been used for different purposes for over 20 years. Apart from eliminating wrinkles on the face and neck, it is also used in the treatment of facial asymmetries, in the elimination of involuntary and tic-like facial expressions, and in the treatment of migraine and tension-type pain. We also use Botox treatment to reduce and soften the contraction of the masseter muscle that causes teeth grinding, to reduce the appearance of excessively prominent gums called gummy smile, and to lift the tip of the nose. Apart from this, it is one of the most frequently used treatment methods, especially in the treatment of excessive sweating in the hands, feet, armpits and groins.

Is it a safe method?

Botox applications were approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2002 for the prevention of facial wrinkles and since 2004 for the treatment of excessive sweating under the arms. In Turkey, only two drugs containing different types of botulinum toxin are approved by the Ministry of Health. Other products do not carry the approval of the Ministry of Health.


What is the benefit of Botox for cosmetic purposes?

The muscles that allow us to make facial expressions cause wrinkles on the skin surface after years of use. Especially excessive facial expression use, environmental and genetic factors can cause wrinkles to form early. By relaxing the muscles with Botox, the aging process slows down and rapid wrinkle formation on the face can be reduced. By starting Botox applications at an early age and with regular Botox applications, wrinkle formation can be prevented with Botox.

Will my facial expressions completely disappear with Botox?

With correct Botox applications performed by a specialist physician, facial expressions do not disappear. Our main purpose in the application is to reduce the excessive movement of facial expressions, not to completely eliminate facial expressions.

For what purpose is Botox applied?

It is generally used to reduce forehead, eye contour (crow's feet) and neck lines between the eyebrows, to lift or lower the eyebrows, hare lines on the nose, vertical lines above the lips, frown lines at the corners of the lips, to lift the tip of the nose and to reduce wrinkles in the chin area.

Is Botox a painful procedure?

This varies from person to person. Some people may feel a slight tingling sensation during Botox injections. Using local anesthetic creams on the areas to be injected before the treatment can reduce these discomforts.

When does Botox start to show its effect?

Botox injections start to show their effect 3-4 days after the application, and the maximum effect occurs in 7-14 days. This period may vary from person to person and depending on the applied dosage.

How long does Botox effect last?

The duration of Botox effect also varies from person to person. It can be said that it usually lasts for 3-6 months in facial applications. It is natural for the effect to last shorter for people who use their facial muscles more and due to environmental factors.

Does Botox have any side effects?

Botox has almost no side effects. Bruising or redness may occur at the injection points. Headache is a rare side effect at the time of the first application. Another rare side effect of Botox is that the upper eyelid may temporarily droop down.

Who cannot have Botox?

Pregnant or breastfeeding mothers, those with muscle nerve diseases or bleeding problems are not treated. Also, those with herpes and similar skin diseases in the area where treatment is desired can have the treatment after receiving treatment for these diseases.

Who can have Botox applied? Is there an age limit?

Anyone who complains about lines and wrinkles caused by facial expressions can benefit from Botox treatment. Wrinkles and lines on the face settle in the area where they are located when exposed to sunlight and repeated facial expressions, can become permanent and deepen. In this case, lines and wrinkles should be supported with filler injections.
